President Dwight Eisenhower
Ike (Dwight Eisenhower) was the Supreme Commander in WWII of the Allied forces in Europe. He did a great job organizing and managing his generals and he won the War against the Axis powers.
He Went on to lead Columbia University from 1948-1953. It is said that his years there were less than spectacular. As were his years as President. Who knows. Although a leader like Ike, who was honest and probably not corruptible as we have seen in other presidents during the past 20-50 years, he must stand out as one of our best.
Notwithstanding his wartime successes, he is most remembered now because of the warning he gave us all about the dangers of the military industrial complex in his final speech to the American People. Here it is.
No other president has ever given us such an honest warning.
