Terrorism - Bash the Bad Guys

On 9-24-2014, General Mayville of the Pentagon came out and said that the new war against ISIL (ISIS) will go on for years.

I thought to myself, that was a strange thing to say. Normally, the military says it will be over in a flash and then it drags on for years. This time thay said right at the outset that it will take years to resolve.

How would they know that and why can't then resolve any situation that comes up with the amount of money we spend on armaments and military technology?

I think Infowars' headline is correct  - they were telling the military industrial complex that they are good to go for a drawn out war... again.
